Acting as a Zoom Host—Supporting Presenters Using Zoom [RECORDING AVAILABLE]
With conventions, conferences, and professional development workshops all happening online this year we have been turning to Zoom to host learning opportunities; however, presenting and moderating a session at the same time can prove to be extremely difficult. As a result, many have turned to having a volunteer assist with the moderation of sessions. This short workshop will teach participants the ins and outs of hosting a zoom session, and prepare them to work with their volunteers to support speakers. Muting all participants, zoom room security, sharing screens, managing chat, disabling the waiting room and troubleshooting issues are all topics to be covered in this session.  A cheet sheet to take notes on is attached for this session

Preview of Two Newly Developed Indigenous Education Workshops
ᑕᐯᐧᐃᐧᐣ tapwewin: Dismantling Anti-Indigenous Racism - This introductory workshop will encourage educators to critically reflect on concepts such as white privilege, systemic racism and assimilation.  Historical and contemporary examples of anti-Indigenous racism will be explored, and participants will be challenged to consider their own role in dismantling anti-Indigenous racism.  Educators will leave with a foundational understanding of anti-racism with a focus on Indigenous Peoples, and will also be equipped with suggested resources for further learning. Note that portions of this workshop may be difficult for some participants, particularly for Indigenous Peoples and/or those who have experienced racism.

A Call to Action for Advancing Indigenous Women in Education: Restoring Balance through Truth, Justice and Reconciliation - “For our young women, for our grandmothers, for our women who travel with us, we are sacred because we exist. We are sacred because we have survived.” – Excerpt from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Final Report. Throughout this session you will examine historical and contemporary issues, challenges and inequities for Indigenous women, including action to support reclaiming power and place. You will deepen your understanding of why it’s crucial to support Indigenous women and how you can contribute to restoring balance within education systems.

Using Digital Tools to Enhance Pre-Recorded Online PD Sessions
While many online sessions at ATA PD events will be live, another option that event organizers are exploring are pre-recorded sessions. In this session, we’ll explore technical options for recording presentations as well as online options for adding interactivity between participants and presenters, including Flipgrid, Padlet, and more. Attendees will receive a digital takeaway to share with their own presenters considering preparing pre-recorded sessions.

The Women in Educational Leadership Needs Assessment Research: What We Learned
In Alberta, the gap between the number of women who occupy positions of leadership in both school jurisdictions and the Alberta Teachers Association and the number of women who are members of the teaching profession is significant. A review of the literature and historical documents shows this gap has been surprisingly durable over time. Therefore, in the spring of 2019, the Alberta Teachers' Association launched an online survey to assess what Alberta teachers thought about the experience of teachers with respect to educational leadership and gender. The survey explored whether there is gender-based discrimination experienced by teachers and how these barriers impact a teachers' career progression. In addition, participants were asked to identify what supports teachers identified as being important to helping women enter into positions of educational leadership. This session will provide an overview of the survey and provide comment about how this information might assist the work of the Association and school jurisdictions.

Robert’s Rules of Order in a Virtual Setting
Holding meetings in a virtual setting has facilitated the important business of ATA subgroups during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it has also presented challenges with ensuring that decisions are made in a fair manner. This session will discuss Robert’s Rules of Order and their use in decision-making meetings (such as Annual General Meetings) generally, but will also explore considerations for ATA subgroups to successfully implement the principles of Robert’s Rules of Order in online meetings.
